Features Face to Face

Sound Quality: JBL PartyBox 310 vs 710

These products have the same sound-based build. Let’s get a closer look at the similarities they have:

  • a pair of frontward firing 6.5″ woofer drivers, a pair of frontward firing 2.5″ tweeter drivers
  • an exhaust port that is on the back
  • no subwoofer drivers in these versions
  • good woofer drivers provide high-powered mids, aka clear vocals and instrument separation
  • a Bass Boost option

There are 2 variations of a Bass Boost feature on the devices. Take into account that this function can simply make you turn off your speaker or cut down on the volume, as especially the PartyBox 710 version starts to produce more noise, making bass output too loud if you are in a limited space. We aren’t saying that you shouldn’t be using this function, it’s great! However, consider the place you are in and the ability of the speaker to produce powerful audio.

As for the differences, their amount prevails between these speakers.

Our opinion

The PartyBox 310 fits better for home usage as you may not need to level up your volume more than 60-70%. The PartyBox 710 performs powerfully and loudly, able to generate better bass for big indoor events and open spaces.

These speakers are covered by a plastic casing with a metal grille on the front. As for the weight, the PartyBox 310 is 38.5 pounds (17.5 kg), while the PartyBox 710 is 62 pounds (almost 28 kg). Together with the weight, the devices differ in a size, and as you understood, the PartyBox 310 has fewer dimensions than its newer model.

When mentioning portability, we agree that they both are comfortable, while using their built-in wheels. Yet rolling the PartyBox 310 is easier due to its telescoping handlebar. At the same time, rolling the PartyBox 710 feels different due to its fixed carrying handle. It’s worth admitting in case you need to transfer the PartyBox 710, you might ask some other people to help you. If checking on the portability of the speaker, then the 310 version is an absolute winner.

As for durability, these gadgets are IPx4 rated. It means that the IP rating protects these speakers from water splashes. Make sure that the ports compartment on the rear panel is closed. However, they can’t be submerged.

Lighting Mode

The JBL offers excellent lighting modes that you can apply. The lighting option is more advanced on the PartyBox 710 than on the PartyBox 310, for instance, the light circles that follow the edges of the woofers, are connected making an 8-shape number. If you get a look at the light circles on the PartyBox 310, then you’ll notice that they are apart.

In general, the PartyBox 710 has nicer additions, like built-in LED lights on the front side, as well as colored light bars on both sides. In order to control speakers’ lighting features, utilize the JBL Party Box app. With its help, you can even customize those modes if you want. Be cautious if planning to use the light option on the 310 version as they will shorten your battery life.

Battery

The battery capability of the PartyBox 310 is 18 hours of playback time, however, it’s with a speaker playing at 50% of max volume. Moreover, the light mode should be off together with the bass boost. We can assure you that 50% volume is enough for personal use. Eventually, if you want to raise volumes more than recommended, including the use of lights, or bass boost feature, it will pull the battery down faster.

PartyBox 310 charging

The JBL PartyBox 310 has a port for 12V charging. There’s an option to get an additional JBL car charger to power the device in the car which is really convenient. Once planning a trip with this gadget, you don’t have to worry about low battery.

As for the JBL PartyBox 710, it doesn’t have a built-in battery, so it must be plugged into the power source.

Connectivity

Let’s discuss how we can connect these Partyboxes together. Great that they have True Wireless Stereo (TWS). It means that there’s an opportunity to wirelessly join two party speakers together. Yet there’s an ability to wirelessly link the Partyboxes 710 and 310 to each other. It’s worth noting that you can’t pair them with their predecessors, like with the PartyBox 300.

Two speakers can play synchronously, or otherwise, you can get the same kind of speakers to make them play right and left stereo. Furthermore, there’s a condition that only two devices can be wirelessly joined together. If there’s a need to connect more than two speakers at the same time, they should be linked in series. Consider that they will play together, however, their light mode will be different.

The party speakers have two-quarter-inch ports in case you need to plug in a microphone for a karaoke party. With this, it’s easy to adjust the audio with a bass boost feature, nevertheless, the changes impact only a mic that is in, but not the sound from the speakers.

They also have a USB type A port for charging your own gadgets. One advantage is an audio jack for a wired connection. It makes sense if you and a friend want to access the double connectivity to join one speaker and both be DJs. This input allows connecting your device with the headphones.

  1. The 310 is better only because of the battery and its easy to take around and about. Plus is cheaper. The 710 I think is where you need two of them for a more realistic sound. You can say the same about the 310. Two is always better than one.
