How to Reset When the JBL Speaker Keep Turning Off

If turning on your JBL speaker doesn’t resolve the issue, you may proceed to reset the speaker to its factory default settings. All of the speaker’s data will be deleted as a result, leaving it in the same condition as when it was brand new.

Resetting the speaker is not always a good idea because it can stop connecting with other devices it was previously associated.

If the speaker continues shutting off and the battery connection works fine, it most likely has a flaw that can be fixed with a quick reset. Resetting resolves software-related problems with your speaker. Since each speaker has a unique setting, you should research how to reset your speaker.

The simple steps listed below will restore your speaker’s factory settings:

  1. JBL Charge: While the speaker is turned on, press and hold the Volume Up (+) and Bluetooth buttons simultaneously. The speaker continues to be on while the light surrounding the buttons illuminates. It must be turned off after the procedure.

You should turn on the speaker after doing the reset to determine if it was successful. See whether the speaker has the memory of a device by attaching one that has always been connected to it. If the speaker requests a new pairing, the reset operation was successful.

What Might Prevent a JBL Speaker from Turning On?

If your speaker continues shutting off, it could be difficult to turn it back on. If that occurs, you must first verify that your speaker is charged. The issue could go away if you plug in and turn on the speaker.

The majority of JBL Bluetooth speakers feature batteries that can be charged for up to 24 hours. Users often forget to charge their gadgets as a result. If the speaker still doesn’t show up, the issue may be a malfunctioning charging cord that abruptly drains the battery. Consider using an alternative battery cable if you think your current one might be having issues.

PRO TIP
Use a low-watt USB power adapter instead. 500 mA is more than enough for the speaker, just look at its rating. You can use a 1, 1.2, or 2 A adapter to make the battery charge more quickly, but doing so might shorten the battery’s life by causing the battery to overheat.

Your speaker’s circuit board or the battery may sometimes be harmed. If the battery is damaged, it cannot maintain a charge for a sufficient amount of time and continually shuts off. While getting a new battery for specific JBL models is simple, doing so for other models will be challenging.

PRO TIP

If it’s possible, try not to completely deplete the battery. Don’t leave it connected to USB power constantly. As soon as it hits 100%, disconnect.

If you’ve never replaced a battery in a Bluetooth speaker before, you’ll need to take your speaker to a professional. More harm may result from opening your speaker and not understanding what to do with it.
Be aware that JBL speakers may switch off automatically after around 10 minutes if you do not connect them to a device. This is how these gadgets save energy. If it shuts off after ten or so minutes, all you have to do to resume listening to music is turn it back on and connect it to another device.

What Sets Off and On a JBL Speaker Constantly?

When most speakers turn off, then turn back on for a considerable amount of time, it changes music perception. The ability to switch on automatically is not a feature of these speakers.

Most likely, there is an issue with the speaker’s circuit board or the power button, which may have dust beneath it. If your speaker has this issue, check the warranty coverage.

You have two options: take the speaker to a repairman to clean the dust beneath the power button, or let the warranty replace or repair the speaker.

Can an Old Speaker Continue to Power Off?

If your JBL speaker is old, it might have some issues that a simple reset is not able to fix. These speakers can have a defective circuit board that causes them to continually turn on and off. Once again, the speaker’s battery might be severely damaged that it can no longer retain a charge.

If resetting and changing the battery doesn’t resolve the problem for an old speaker that is no longer under warranty, you may need to replace the speaker. The majority of JBL speakers are reasonably priced, so changing a speaker is a smart move to save money on system maintenance.

Additionally, these speakers may not be able to connect to Bluetooth devices, particularly if they are using an outdated Bluetooth version. Please remember this when thinking about the speaker’s change.

Why should you get a new speaker?

Better features may be found on the newest JBL speakers. They feature Bluetooth version 4.2 or above, which makes them safe and enables quick and long-distanced connections. When you need to take the speakers on your next vacation, they are also more streamlined and portable.

The new speaker will always produce better sound. This is due to the improved Bluetooth version and the speaker’s upgraded subwoofer. Additionally, there are many available extra options, and there is a speaker for any price range.

Do JBL Speakers Have Bluetooth Connectivity Issues?

Any Bluetooth speaker might have connection issues. Most of the time, they either fail to pair or lose connectivity after doing so. Connectivity problems with the JBL speakers are uncommon unless the speaker is extremely old, although they may arise.

You may try turning off the speaker and the phone and waiting for roughly three seconds if your speaker won’t connect. Open the Bluetooth settings on your phone, turn on the speaker, and link the device.

Make sure there are no obstructions, there is no interference, and the two devices are close enough to connect.

PRO TIP

  1. On your phone, download the JBL Portable App (Android or iOS)
  2. Link the speaker to a USB power source
  3. Connect to the phone and turn on the speaker
  4. Once the speaker is found, launch the app and check for any updates
  5. Select the update, then permit the device to download it (10-15 mins usually)
  6. Hope this is useful to someone. Fix it instead of throwing it away

Consult a professional about it

Were you able to fix your JBL speaker according to our guide? If not, we recommend visiting a JBL Service Center with the speaker.

In addition to providing the greatest hands for your speaker, the service is reasonably priced. You may not even have to pay for the servicing if your speaker is still covered by its guarantee.

Final Thoughts

If you encounter such a problem as the JBL speaker keep turning off, always begin with the simplest solutions, like turning the speaker on and off again. You may proceed to reset the speaker to factory settings if these straightforward recommendations do not work. The primary issue with this is that your speaker can stop working with gadgets it used to connect to.

You may always get assistance from JBL customer service if you are unable to fix an issue. You should get in touch with the manufacturer if your speaker’s warranty is still valid to see if you can get it fixed or replaced. This will save you from manually opening the speaker, which can result in other problems.

  1. Help me fix my Flip 4 it won’t stay on battery is charged. I tried holding down the buttons but it seems like that made it worse. Now it won’t stay on long enough to try anything before it would connect and Play for a few and shut off. This thing is only a couple months old.

    • Hi Larry Gocha,

At this point, if your JBL Flip 4 is still not working properly after attempting all the above troubleshooting steps, it is highly advisable to make use of its warranty.

Contact JBL: Get in touch with JBL’s customer service. Explain the problem and let them know about all the steps you’ve taken to try to fix the issue. They might have additional troubleshooting methods, or they will guide you through the process of utilizing your warranty.

Contact Your Retailer: If you purchased the speaker from a retailer, you could also contact their customer service department. They might be able to assist you in processing a return or exchange under the warranty.

  2. I have the exact same problem as Larry, I tried literally everything even opening it up and check the on/off button / circuit board, Battery is indicated as full and I have 2 different chargers I have let them both charge for a while just incase it was the indicator that was broken or showing wrong, The only time it stays on for more then 3-4 seconds is when I press the Play and Volume up button for the “facorty reset” it makes a sound, I tried turn off right after and same problem still applies after I turn it on, I did the reset and left it on and played music for about 20 seconds then it shuts off again, The speaker stays on for about 10 more seconds if I spam click the volume buttons somehow. When I start the speaker it tries to find a connection and the bluetooth search sound stays on for 3-4 seconds then it shuts down again. I got the app but it wount stay on for long enough to compleate 1% of the update.

Oh well I is aboue 3-4 years old and have been used a lot so, Can’t expect them to live forever, I will get a new JBL speaker today, Maybe the big boy one.

I was listening to my JBL Go2, it wasn’t low on battery. I walked out of range of my phone and it disconnected. Now it will immediately turn off when I power on. It makes the power-up sound but then it is off. I can’t reset it or anything. Plugging it into charger makes the red light come on but it behaves the same way if I try to turn it on. I have a hard time believing this is a sudden circuit board failure and the device is relatively new so the battery appears to be fine. Can’t find anything on-line to help. Anyone experience this syndrome and have a fix??

    • Hi William C Ellisor,

      Here’s what I’d recommend:

Charge the Speaker: Plug your JBL Flip 4 into the included USB charging adapter. Let it charge uninterrupted for about 3 hours. This should be sufficient time to ensure a full charge.

Test the Speaker: After it’s fully charged, turn it on and see how long it lasts. Use it as you normally would and keep an eye on whether it shuts off prematurely like before.

If you find that the speaker is still not functioning as it should, then it’s quite possible that the battery is faulty or there might be some other hardware issue at play.

      In that case:

Check Your Warranty: Find your proof of purchase and check the warranty expiration date. If the speaker is still under warranty, you should be entitled to a refund or replacement.

Contact JBL or Your Retailer: If the speaker is under warranty, reach out to either JBL’s customer service or the retailer you purchased the speaker from. Explain the situation and your attempts to fix it, and they should guide you through the process of getting your speaker repaired or replaced.

  4. I think , no having it being the same type of problem with the jblextreme and all the jbl I think there should be a factory recall 3 years thats not long .unless jbl has it set up this way so that people buy every so often and don’t say it cause it happens.
Transistor less grade than the diode board etc and they are all doing gthe same the same thing shutting down. Just my over thinking, that possibility.
Thank you . If anyone figures it out let us knowplease.

  5. I tried everything Larry tried to no avail. My JBL is a little more than a year old. I don’t consider that old. I am so disappointed in the JBL speaker. I had the Bose speaker for 5 plus years. I sold it for the same price I purchased it for because Bose holds its value. I only traded because JBL is a little bit louder. I don’t like spending all my time trying to figure out what is wrong with technical devices, especially when they are relatively new. I won’t ever stray from the Bose product again.

  6. I have the JBL PARTYBOX 710 and the problem is that if I connect to one of my bluetooth device’s everything works fine but if there is no audio signal for a few seconds the JBL partybox 710 is shutting down with a popping sound and completely shut,s off ,PS this doesn’t happen with my other bluetooth devices, only this one. Other bluetooth receiver’s don’t have any problems to connect with this device. What is going on???.
